Three reasons people enrol

The benefits of learning from Rick Collingwood on your career.

Students arrive from three different directions and the same eight days serve all three. Tell us which one you are on and we will answer for that.

Path one

Practise as a clinical hypnotherapist

The full professional route. You finish with a Diploma of Clinical Hypnotherapy and a Transcript of Studies, and with the paperwork, ethics and consultation structure a real practice needs.

  • Client intake, consultation forms and case notes
  • Ethical, moral and religious considerations
  • Abreaction management and therapeutic reality
  • The Total Resolution Process, a full five-session protocol
  • Marketing your hypnosis practice, all of day four
  • Training recognised by the AHA, PHA and HCA
Path two

Add it to the profession you already have

Therapists, coaches, clinicians and anyone whose work is mostly conversation. Suggestion, rapport and attention are teachable skills, and most of this training is about how language and presence actually land on another person.

  • The nature of suggestion, direct and indirect
  • Ericksonian and conversational hypnosis
  • Using the gaze in ordinary conversation
  • Presuppositions, reframing and anchoring
  • Overcoming resistance
  • Reading and holding another person's attention
Path three

Use it on yourself

Rick's recordings have sold more than two million copies since 2002 because self-directed suggestion works. Day four is given to exactly this, taught by Michael Nadalin, and you keep the material permanently.

  • Self-hypnosis, taught as a method not a theory
  • Hypnosis for achievement
  • Concentration and mastery of the mind
  • Breathing, stillness and getting yourself into state
  • Creating and finishing your day
  • Permanent access to the resource centre after you qualify
Watch it done

Examples of hypnosis training.

Four unedited training demonstrations. Nothing here is a lecture about hypnosis. Watch how little is said, and how much is done with attention, gaze and touch.

These are training demonstrations. The methods should not be attempted by an untrained person.

The curriculum, in full

What you will actually be taught.

Open any module to see the topics it covers. This is the whole training, laid out, not a summary of it.

01Foundations, history and where the profession sitsModule one
Theory

Where hypnosis came from, why the profession looks the way it does, and how the modern clinical picture was assembled. This is the part that stops you repeating folklore to a client.

  • How the need for hypnotherapy was created
  • Mesmerism and hypnosis, the actual difference
  • Franz Anton Mesmer and the Paris vats
  • Mesmerists and magnetists of the Renaissance period
  • Vital fluids of repulsion and attraction
  • Healing by magnetic stroking
  • Medical uses of magnetic plates
  • Freud, and a second view of Freud and hypnosis
  • Dr George Estabrooks
  • Milton Erickson
  • The medical acceptance of hypnosis
  • Modern clinical research
  • Psychotherapy, and how hypnosis sits beside it
  • Hypnosis associations and professional membership
02The mind, the body, and the client in front of youModule two
Theory

The working model of the mind you will use with every client, the ethics that govern the work, and the paperwork a practice runs on. It closes with a full glossary of the terms the profession uses, so nothing later in the training is a guess.

  • The conscious, subconscious and unconscious minds
  • The mind-body interaction
  • Interaction of the brain and the immune system
  • Genetic factors and social stresses
  • Abreaction management, and the four primary types
  • Therapeutic reality
  • Ethical, moral and religious considerations
  • The esoteric aspects of hypnosis
  • Hypnotherapy consultation form and observations
  • Sound mental health acknowledgement, disclaimer, warranty
  • The three levels of trance accessible to all people
  • Hypnosis responsiveness questionnaire
  • Evaluating hypnotic capacity
  • Basic psychology and what normality means clinically
  • Glossary of hypnosis terms, from age regression to trance logic
03Inducing hypnosis: the inductions themselvesModule three
Practical

The largest practical module, and the one students most often say they did not get from a previous course. You do not learn one induction. You learn the family of them, why each one suits a different person, and how to deepen and finish a trance cleanly.

Suggestion and resistance

  • Structuring hypnotic suggestions
  • Overcoming resistance
  • Presuppositions and indirect suggestions
  • Ericksonian indirect and conversational hypnosis against direct suggestion
  • The experience of being hypnotised
  • Ideo-motor questioning

Inductions

  • Hand to face induction
  • Progressive muscle relaxation
  • Progressive muscle tensing and relaxation
  • Confusion induction
  • The eye lock induction
  • Lagoon induction
  • Finger press induction
  • Gil Boyne's version of the Dave Elman technique
  • Wolberg arm levitation
  • Eye catalepsy
  • Magnet between the palms of outstretched arms
  • Authoritative induction
  • Coma state induction
  • Ego strengthening induction
  • Indirect hypnosis induction method
  • Induction questionnaire, matching method to person

Rapid inductions, deepening and finishing

  • Hand press induction
  • Stiff arm
  • The direct gaze
  • Induction methods of the masters
  • Six verbal deepening techniques
  • Deepening through physical disorientation
  • Fractionation
  • Flocking, and confusion deepening
  • Obtaining mental relaxation
  • Trance finish
04Suggestion, script and metaphor, by presenting issueModule four
Practical

What you actually say once the person is under, organised by what they came in with. You get the scripts, and you are taught to build your own, which matters more.

  • Metaphors, and creating your own metaphors
  • Dragons and watermelons, swimming to Japan, the self worth metaphor
  • Suggestions for positive change and change enhancement
  • Reframing suggestions
  • Anchoring a suggestion
  • Creating amnesia, and amnesia metaphors
  • Smoking cessation, single session
  • Stop smoking instructions and affirmation
  • Eating control and positive suggestion
  • Weight loss, authoritative and direct
  • Curative suggestion
  • Stress
  • Self worth enhancement
  • Self confidence and self esteem
  • Motivation
  • Insomnia
  • Nail biting, two approaches
  • Finding present life memories
  • Past life regression, and the hall of regression
  • Childbirth script
  • The treatment of pain with hypnosis
  • Children's work: magic TV, egg timer, bucket of water and face on thumb inductions
  • Child health and happiness, including suggestion while asleep
05Therapeutic hypnosis and pain managementModule five
Clinical

The clinical end of the work, including how to behave around a person who is seriously unwell, and how to work alongside their treating doctor rather than around them.

  • Identifying the shock-conflict
  • Working with the critically ill
  • Objective and subjective thinking during emergencies
  • Direct suggestion in emergencies
  • Emotional factors in persistent pain states
  • Subconscious awareness of illness
  • Ideo-motor methods of recognising subliminal pain
  • Resistance to hypnosis and therapy
  • Resistance from guilt, and from manipulative pain states
  • Devaluation of hypnosis by professionals, relatives and friends
  • General principles for alleviating persistent pain
  • Techniques for creating hypnotic analgesia
  • Anaesthesia and direct diminution of sensation
  • Sensory substitution, displacement, dissociation
  • Extending relief with post-hypnotic suggestion
  • Self-hypnotic pain management
  • Metaphor modifications effective in clinical practice
  • Persistent pain and natural sleep
  • Co-operation with the treating doctor
  • Depth of trance, and the three aspects of the mind
06Mesmerism and magnetism, hypnosis without wordsModule six
Four in-class days

Four of the eight days. This is the part of the training almost nobody else in the world teaches, and it is what students in the videos below keep pointing at. It is non-verbal: attention, gaze, breath, movement and touch.

  • The difference between magnetism, mesmerism and hypnosis
  • Mesmerism, somnambulism, fascination, hypnosis, and how they relate
  • Presence
  • Gamma waves and fascination
  • Intuition and human sensing systems
  • Personal magnetism
  • Desire and will
  • Mental suggestion, and the nature of suggestion
  • Gazing and hypnotic fascination
  • The practice of Trataka
  • Fascination basics and eye expression

  • Getting yourself into state, and external influence
  • Stilling the mind
  • Transference and transferring intention
  • Magnetic passes, hand movements and influence with the fingers
  • The five primary magnetic methods
  • Inducing mesmerism and magnetism
  • Combining magnetism and hypnotism
  • Advanced magnetism techniques
  • How to make a baquet
07The Total Resolution Process, a complete client protocolModule seven
Client protocol

A five-session therapy protocol from first contact to close. Most training leaves you with techniques and no structure to hang them on. This is the structure.

  • The therapy protocol, end to end
  • The symptoms and the presentation
  • Taking the history
  • The presently desired and future projected result
  • The resolution process itself
  • Handling the slip back
  • The forest
  • Session one questionnaire and curative suggestion
  • Sessions two, three, four and five, in order
  • Giving relevant direct suggestions
08Self-hypnosis, achievement, and marketing your practiceModule eight
Day four, in class

A full day, not a session. Day four is the day the training turns from what you can do to a client into what you can do for yourself, and whether anyone ever finds out you exist.

  • Self-hypnosis as a daily practice
  • Hypnosis for achievement
  • Marketing your hypnosis practice
  • Where clients actually come from
  • Positioning yourself against every other hypnotherapist locally
Sydney, 22 to 29 January 2027

Eight consecutive days. Here is how they run.

Eight days in a block, not weekly evenings across months, so you complete the in-class requirement without carving up your year.

Advanced Hypnosis

Conducted by Rick Collingwood. Inductions, deepening, suggestion, therapeutic application and supervised practice on real people, assessed live in the room.

  • An acceptance letter with your dates and details

  • A password to the student training and resource centre, filled with training videos and relevant books
  • Permanent, free access to that resource centre, which does not expire when you qualify

Online theory opens the day you register, so most students have completed a substantial part of the course before the first in-class day in January.

Before you enquire

Frequently asked questions.

Do I need any prior experience or qualification?
No. Students arrive with no prior experience, from other careers, and as practising therapists upskilling. The training is structured so that every student learns the theoretical and the practical skills needed to work as a confident, competent hypnotherapist.
Can I do the whole thing online?
The theory, yes. The practical component, no. Practical competency is assessed live, in the room, so the in-class days cannot be completed remotely. Both online trainings are complete trainings in their own right and lead to their own qualification, and their fees are deducted if you later attend in class.
How many days do I need to be in Sydney?
Eight consecutive days, Friday 22 to Friday 29 January 2027. Because they run as a block rather than as weekly evenings, you complete the in-class requirement without taking time out across months.
Do I need to be registered to practise in New South Wales?
No Australian jurisdiction registers hypnotherapists, including New South Wales. Practice is governed by professional association membership, and the Academy's training is accredited by the Hypnotherapy Council of Australia and recognised by the AHA and PHA.
What qualification do I finish with?
A Diploma of Clinical Hypnotherapy and a Transcript of Studies, after the eight in-class days, a 150-question open-book examination and five self-assessments. The online Mesmerism and Magnetism training leads to a Diploma of Clinical Magnetism instead.
I do not want to be a therapist. Is this still for me?
Yes, and a good share of each intake is in that position. Suggestion, rapport, attention and the gaze are the working content of the training, and they apply to any profession that runs on conversation. Day four is given entirely to self-hypnosis, hypnosis for achievement, and marketing, which is the day most self-directed students point at afterwards.
What happens after I enquire?
A person from the Academy answers, not an automated sequence. You get the fees in your currency, the dates for the intake you are considering, and how an online fee is deducted if you later attend in class. Classes are limited in size, so an early enquiry gives you more choice of intake. It holds nothing and obliges nothing.
Can I start before January 2027?
Yes. Online theory begins the day you register, so most students have completed a substantial part of the course before the first in-class day.

Sydney, 22 to 29 January 2027. Classes are limited in size.

Tell us where you are and where you are starting from. We will reply with the fees, the dates and the detail that applies to your situation. An enquiry holds nothing and obliges nothing.
